Biography

I made a serious commitment to the artistic refinement of my photographic work in 2001- a pursuit that has been in turns humbling, frustrating and invigorating.

2004 was a breakthrough year for me. Since the beginning, I have been taking pictures of the Albertan lakes and sloughs that I love. By the spring of 2004, I had made a few pictures that felt truly distinctive to me-my voice was beginning to appear and people who knew my work were beginning to refer to "that Eric Fredine style."

One of my biggest inspirations was a quote from Georges Braque: "Out of limitations, new forms emerge." Upon reading that in a statement by Finnish photographer Arno Rafael Minkkinen, I decided to focus my efforts solely on photographing these Alberta waterscapes for the rest of 2004.

In 2005, I started using a large format view camera and working on a series on the rural landscape incorporating roads.
